If One Can, Many Can

Last week I wrote a post entitled One Person *Can* Make a Difference. But, if one person can do what Karen and Sarah Elise have done in exposing Noah’s rip-off of our poor and elderly residents, just think what many who band together can do.

There’s a movement brewing in the city, voices are rising in protest against the crime that’s plaguing our city. Voices are rising in protest against the deaf ears turned to victims of crime in our city. Voices are rising in protest against the sham of our mayor receiving an “Award of Distinction for Recovery, Courage and Leadership” at the Ritz-Carlton by the “Excellence in Recovery Host Committee” that was supposedly going to honor Katrina survivors and our heroic first-responders.
Helloooo….I do believe I remember our mayor holed up in the Hyatt while his constituents sweltered, thirsted and starved at the Convention Center and Superdome. Personally, I will never forgive him for not standing in unity with the people who most needed his support and assurance during those desperate days.

Friday night a protest against this award is planned on Canal Street in front of the Ritz-Carlton for 6 pm sharp. Be there to show your disgust for hizzoner’s award and your support for the heroic First Responders (Yay, NOFD!!) who REALLY were courageous during the storm and in these 3 years after.

Ya know, this whole skanky award situation reminds me of The Emperor Has No Clothes except it’s the citizens of this city pointing and saying “Mr. Mayor, you are naked and we are not fooled”.

Then join us on September 20 for a march against crime organized by Silence Is Violence, NoLA Rising and United For Peace .
Raise your voices and let it be known that we are not going to allow crime to take over our city and drive us away. Let it be know that we are sick and tired of those who are supposed to “protect and defend” turning a blind and lazy eye to our citizens calls for help.

Mark your calendars, New Orleanians:
August 22, 6 pm in front of The Ritz-Carlton
September 20 March Against Crime , time and meeting spot TBA.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

  1. Indeed Power to the People – it is the only place power *should* reside in a democracy (alas, we are a republic, a tiny point many fail to remember). Good luck in your work – may the leaders follow as the people lead. I will be there in spirit!
