“Curious Tribe” Dope Dreams
Curious Tribe is a New Orleans blog that I didn’t know about until last week. Lucky for me, they contacted me with a request that I check them out and, when I did, I was blown away by what these talented young people are doing. The blog was created by 5 friends: JNErk, Anna, DJChuck, Miche and Guerin whose mission is “to elevate young adults by cultivating a language of creativity through art, fashion, music and culture.”
But don’t let the mission statement fool ya – this blog’s not only for the young but for anyone who wants to keep on trend with today’s culture.
The front page grabs your attention from the start. The lay-out is street-cool and fresh with an eclectic mix of global and local happenings like tonights Battle of the Bands at Tipitina’s, music features like JNErk’s post about England’s Indie band Bloc Party,
art like this incredible piece by German photographer Oliver Herring,
and up to the nano-second real fashion.
I really, really like the Mix-tape page where DJchuck mixes up music from various genres into one long smooth (or hoppin’) stream. Right now I’m listening to “Pocket”, a mix of The Roots, Coldplay, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket and Esperanza Spalding and I’m lovin’ it.
The Looking Glass page profiles New Orleanian’s individual style in snapshots submitted by readers. Miche and Anna dish on what works and what doesn’t and why with suggestions on other ways to mix it up. I like this concept of profiling locals on the stree. It’s a refreshing and innovative change from skinny models wearing haute couture, as much as we love it. Keeping it real, ya know?
Then there’s Anna’s page that’s a mix of all things cultural from living green to books to toilet-themed restaurants. No, really.
There’s so much stuff to see and read on this blog that you must go see for yourself. I highly recommend it. Mark my words, this blog is destined to be number 1 with a bullet.
