To anyone who has used the excuse that one voice or one person can’t make a difference against injustice in this world, I say read this.
This won’t be a long post and it’s mainly for my out-of-town readers who are interested in the recovery process in this city. Everyone here in New Orleans concerned about the inequities and corruption in our city post-Katrina, about the struggle of our fellow citizens to rebuild and remediate their homes so they can come home, about the poor and elderly who have been at the mercy of crooked contractors and an inept city government, about corruption in our public schools….all New Orleanians who work hard every day in their own ways to make this city a better place to live know who Karen Gadbois is.
For those who don’t, read the New York Times article I linked to above to see how one woman exposed the shameful exploitation of our city’s poor by the very organization that was set up to help them rebuild their homes destroyed by The Federal Flood after Hurricane Katrina passed through the city 3 years ago.
Read how one person can make a difference and think of her when you cynically say there’s nothing YOU can do to change your world.

Ya – you are so right! I keep telling my kids that too.
