Artist Sean Derry’s public art installation “An Interlude to Stillness” premiered November 13 in the parking lot of Robért’s in Mid-City. Not to worry! It exhibits through Nov 17 so you still have time to catch it. From Art in Action!:
“An Interlude to Stillness” attempts to re-animate the abandoned parking lot by bringing both color and movement to its empty space. In describing the project Derry writes, “As populations shift, weed-filled parking lots are left to frame vacant shopping malls, creating vacuous spaces that provoke a palpable sense of loss. “An Interlude to Stillness” presents a momentary remedy for a single site by offering breath to a forsaken place.”
and
During a recent trip to New Orleans Derry recognized that the particular characteristics of the abandoned Robért Market as well as the city’s complex personal and cultural narratives make it an ideal location for the premier of his project.
Doug McCash writes about the exhibit here, complete with video.
