Dis ‘n Dat

My Life Card would say:

Charlotte (Last Name)
Lover of Life
Seeker of Knowledge
Human Being in Training

Anyone wondering what that’s about visit Create a Connection, where I am guest-posting every Friday this month.

So it’s Friday…..time to wrap up the work-week and just let the week-end unfold. Yes.
I’ve had so much running around in my head this week even as I’m continuing to strive for a centered quietness. I’ve (tentatively) begun meditating again but without imposing any expectations or “rules” on myself. I will find my own way – the way that works for me. I’m still (slowly) reading Eat, Pray, Love – having decided to savor and absorb it, not rushing through or gobbling it, even though I want to!

On page 44 is this passage…..words that make me go “Uh Huh!”

“Just as there exists in writing a literal truth and a poetic truth, there also exists in a human being a literal anatomy and a poetic anatomy. One, you can see; one, you cannot. One is made of bones and teeth and flesh; the other is made of energy and memory and faith. But they are both equally true”

Following that is a discussion of what Yogic tradition calls “the blue pearl”…the ultimate union with God (or Buddha or Allah, etc), through meditation, that all who seek enlightenment desire to achieve.

There is a woman who works in my office as a temp. We have settled into a friendly, comfortable relationship over the last 3 weeks, chatting as we work. Today she told me her Katrina story and it awed, humbled and inspired me. It’s had such a profound effect on me that I don’t think I can even share it until I’ve digested and become (somewhat) comfortable with the story and the images imprinted in my imagination. Her husband is one of the faceless, unsung heroes of the flood, rescuing and transporting stranded people (mostly elderly and handicapped) in an area of this city that saw no National Guard, no police, no volunteers. (By his eye-witness account.) A part of our city that was left to do for itself. “Nobody came.”

Knowledge like this is what makes me strive for the meditative practice.

OK now, lest you think I am all seriousness and no fun……I give you Flashback Friday. This week it’s the indominatble Sheryl Crow live, covering the classic Led Zeppelin Rock and Roll…..and BETTER than they ever did it. (Embed is disabled but it’s well worth clicking over to YouTube — why are all the really good ones disabled?????)
Have a great week-end, ya’all!

  1. I know I need to re-read that book. I’ve been way too much mental running around this week and accomplishing nothing but making myself feel scattered. Thank you for the reminder.

  2. Eat Pray Love – what an amazing book. At first I thought: oh, an Anne Lamott wanna be…but no, every so much her own person and a GREAT writer. I lent my cc out immediately but the person can’t seem to get into it. what a waste…Am currently Snowflower and the Secret Fan rcommended by longest friend Linda in CA – it’s fascinating!
